Back to the Basics.

I love fashion, but at the base of fashion are the, well, Basics. I am a firm believe in having an abundance of the basics.

And if you're unsure of what the basics are, Here's a list! And I can promise you that your grey hoodie is not a basic.

Every woman's closet should contain these items
  • A classic heeled pump; either black or nude
  • Ballet flats; Have at least one pair that are black or have the classic ballerina look.
  • A trench coat; make sure that it is form fitting and they look the best if they fall right above or just below the knee.
  • Classic white shirt; Now this is where the Abundance comes in! You're going to want a white shirt in these styles (at least!) a loose but elegant blouse, a crisp oxford ( I love my Ralph Lauren oxfords!), and while a plain white V-neck is NOT for every occasion if worn correctly it can become a fabulous style basic.
  • A Little Black Dress or LBD. Find one in a timeless cut that makes you feel sexy and confident every time you slip it on.
  • A cashmere cardigan or sweater or an elegant turtleneck. Even if it gets cold out you should always look your best! And feel cozy while doing so.
  • And last but not least; Denim.
Denim is the fashion staple of Anyone and Everyone's closet. From Starlets to Street walkers everyone has a pair or two. There are some people who refuse to wear jeans on the basis that they are tacky and never look good. On the contrary, those are the people who just haven't found the RIGHT pair of jeans. Not every style, cut, size, or brand works for everyone. In my classic American Eagle skinny jeans I wear a size 0 but when I put on a pair of 7 For All Mankind I fit perfectly into a 23 (which is the equivalent to a -1 or 000!) And when I go to Zumiez with my little brother or my girl friend I jump all the way up to a 1 or 2 in a pair of Empyre Skinny jeans!

And finding the right pair of jeans is a task. When you are going to buy jeans you should go in a basic top (Your fabulous white V-neck!) and a pair of leggings (easy to take on and off). Wear a pair of flats and have a pair of heels in your bag to try on with the jeans also. And a camera. Take shots from all angles (Front, side, other side, and the back!) The camera never lies! Unfortunately sometimes...

You're going to want to dedicate an entire day, or almost to finding your style. And if it's possible try to go during the day on a weekday when the stores are less occupied and the staff has more time to accommodate your needs.

And one more tip before I start telling you how to find that great pair. And I really cannot stress this tip, it make be the most important one, well almost! Do not bring your friends! That's right. You're going to want to make this trek to feeling glamorous alone. And don't worry, many great fashionistas were alone in the beginning when they were on their way to becoming the huge style icons that they are today (I mean HELLO!? Coco made it to the top by herself! So can you!) Bringing your friends with sounds like a good idea, you need moral support right? Well, there's nothing a bar of chocolate and maybe a glass of really good wine can't fix. You're friends are going to feel awkward telling you if a pair of jeans doesn't look good. They might say it in a round about way or just plain lie to your face! And even though they think that they're being a great friend to you, they're not sadly.

So now that we've got our bags packed, our outfit rocking and ready. It's time to hit the stores. (And which stores is really up to you. Which brand of jeans you buy could depend on your income or limitations on what you are allowed to wear. But that is what makes jeans so incredible. Their versatility and millions of different styles and cuts!)

We've all seen in magazines those articles about "Buy the jeans for your body type!" These are really nice baselines to go off of, again everyone is different and not every style works the same for every person even if you have similar figures. Below is a list and descriptions of body types, the style of jeans that work best with them and lastly what you should do with this knowledge.

If you are...

All Legs and a Pair of Eyes
Your main issue is going to be trying to find jeans that don't look like highwaters, (though right now that seems to be trending. But all trends fade at some point it's your decision if you wish to participate.) Leg endowed ladies should look for jeans that aren't a few inches off the floor, and most certainly barely sweeping This makes your jeans look incredibly small due to your luxurious legs. Don't fret, Embrace them! But try to avoid fabrics that are stretchy...those can be horrifying if worn wrong.
A few brands that have jeans for your lovely legs are...
Citizens of Humanity makes jeans that are usually super Long. I am in complete Like with the Ava Straight Leg. But if you're looking for a little bit more of a flair it's definitely worth trying on the Angie Super Flares. You're legs will look like they go on for miles. And believe me. That's sexy.
(You can find these fabulous Jeans at Neiman Marcus and Nordstroms)

The Athlete
You're always on the go. You've got your spin class at eight, beach run at ten, maybe a swim at one, and you're training for a triathlon!? Well maybe you're not that athletic, but hey You're a built machine that has crazy endurance and toned legs to die for. But when you and your girls want to go out you notice that all you have are work out clothes or those old jeans that are full of grass stains from playing football in the park with the guys. You're in trouble. What now?

Well have no fear because James Jeans makes jeans for your active lifestyle!
I highly suggest Reboot ! These jeans are perfect for any situation. They're casual enough to wear out to lunch with the girls and they most definitely and very easily go from day to night.

Perfectly Petite
You're itty bitty. And that's okay! But the sad truth is, and believe me when I say that I can truly feel for you women for I am also an itty bitty girl, finding jeans that are the perfect length and waist size is close to impossible. Either the waist is perfect and the legs are too long, or the legs are perfect and the waist is too big! Those sizes work on other people, but not us little ladies. So here's what you gotta do. Go for solid color jeans. I advise on sticking with darker colored jeans, they not only look slimmer on you but also elongate your body and create a perfectly streamlined look. And who doesn't love that? Try to avoid cuffing your jeans or capris. These unfortunately create a break in the flow of your legs and make you look much shorter.

I absolutely LOVE 1969 Always Skinny jeans from Gap. They have a 3" inseam which is the perfect fit for most of us. Another place to check out, and is nicer to your wallet when you check out, is WetSeal. They have a huge variety of jeans that come in all shapes and sizes. My absolute favorite jeans are their  Fashionista Skinny Jeans in Black (I know! It's like this style was meant for me! And for many of you!)

Sexy and Curvy...
You've got curves. Voluptuous hips and thighs. Places to roam and grab and explore. You're basically as sensual as it gets.  So you're going to need a pair of jeans to show off your great ass... I mean booty. And picking jeans for you is much simpler than you think! Start with looking at styles, I suggest a bootleg or a slight flare to give wonderful proportion. AVOID baggy jeans; at all costs. You're going to want to get flat pockets. I know, the pockets with the buttons and little openings on your but are really cute, but girl you've got junk in that trunk and we want to flatter it not make it look like ...

Just saying. So don't wear baggy jeans. But you do want jeans that skim your thighs instead of hugging them. Again. I suggest dark washes. Deep indigos and dark blues.

I suggest PZI Jeans in the Refined Trouser. These are sexy. And you're going to look sexy and feel sexy. And in the end that's all that matters.
Another suggestion would be The Broadway Straight Leg by Avenue Clothing. You can wear skinny and straight legged jeans, never feel like you can't because you've got hips. Embrace them! If you're skinny on bottom balance it out with a beautiful flowing top and a belt around the waist to show off your lovely waist.

Well this post got REALLY wordy and I was hoping for it to be more pictures, but oh well.
